I’ve been playing with the process of songwriting over the pst few years… trying to push myself into less comfortable areas of my “creative” terrain. I started this song by recording the rhythm guitar and then the guitar break… I wrote (hmmm… “wrote”) the lyrics in a sort of free-form sing-song along to the music. I found myself singing in a different voice… anyone who knows me – knows that – I often speak in different voices… well different accents anyway… but this isn’t really like that…
I found this wonderful piece of film by Georges Méliès, from “Le papillon fantastique” (1909) – It is in the public domain so I have taken the liberty of presenting here. It fits… and doesn’t – but I really enjoy the juxtaposition. I did not want to cut up or otherwise change his piece… (I’m not sure when the colour was added) – please enjoy…
